Glue ear is a condition which causes fluctuating hearing problem in children.
Children with glue ear will be monitored to assess the status of the hearing level. If a child’s glue ear causes a significant degree of hearing loss for longer than 3 months the Audiologist will discuss interventions. Interventions may include a temporary hearing aid or referral to Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) for consideration of grommet surgery.
Children with permanent unilateral hearing loss (this means hearing loss in one ear) will be offered regular monitoring. The frequency of this will be based on how they are getting on and their age. Most school age children with unilateral hearing loss have an annual hearing test.
Children with sensorineural hearing loss will be offered hearing aid based on the hearing level.
