The Government wishes to see a dramatic rise and sustained improvement in the performance of providers of NHS services in both initiating clinical trials and delivering research. The aim is both to increase the number of patients taking part in research and to enhance the nation’s attractiveness as a host for research.
As such we produce quarterly returns to the National Institute for Health Research on its performance to two key metrics:
performance of initiating: recruitment of the first patient onto a study within 70 days of a complete and valid submission of study-related-documents to the Joint Research Development Office
performance in delivery: recruitment of target number of patients to studies within the agreed time limit set out with the sponsor.
