Gastroenterology Studies

The following studies are being carried out at the Somerset Foundation Trust.

ELEVATE

UK based study. Hospital inpatient study for patients with Acute Severe Ulcerative Colitis (ASUC) requiring at least two days of intravenous steroids.

To gain a better understanding of how effective the current investigations and assessments we currently use in the management of ASUC.

Patients complete a daily stool diary during their hospital stay. Research stool, blood samples and questionnaires.

Research study telephone follow-ups at 30 days, 90 days, 6 and 12 months with questionnaire.

UK-PBC

A UK-based, observational study to identify the genetic variants associated with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC).  UK-PBC seeks to discover the genetics causes of PBC in order to help develop more effective medical treatments and improve patient quality of life.

Patients provide blood or sputum samples and complete questionnaires at baseline.
