Service

Colorectal surgery

We provide inpatient and outpatient care for all colorectal (bowel) conditions including:

  • Colorectal cancers
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction (for faecal incontinence)
  • Benign colorectal conditions including diverticular disease, perianal fistulae and polyps.

We offer a fast-track service for the diagnosis of colorectal cancers and we are an accredited centre for colorectal cancer.

Most patients having planned colorectal surgery are offered laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. We have established an enhanced recovery programme designed to help you recover from surgery more quickly, with excellent results.

All our bowel surgeons have wide-ranging skills in all aspects of bowel problems. We have eight consultants, an associate specialist, a staff grade doctor, two specialist registrars and three colorectal specialist nurses, together with a large multidisciplinary support team including stoma care nurses and clinical nurse practitioners.

Together with our gastroenterology colleagues we provide an endoscopy service (including gastroscopy and colonoscopy and bowel cancer screening).
