How we can help

The decision to seek help is not an easy one. However, the sooner help and support is provided, from both family and professionals, the better the outcome will hopefully be for you. With this help and support, most people who experience psychosis will recover and go on to have full, healthy lives, and may never have another episode.

The key thing is to talk to us. We will help you to get the help you need.

How will we help?

We know that it is sometimes difficult for people with mental health problems to trust professionals and to seek help. We will therefore arrange any first meetings in a sensitive manner and will usually meet with you wherever you find convenient.

We aim to provide an adaptable and flexible service to meet your needs, as well as the needs of your families and carers.
We emphasise symptom management, rather than try to establish a diagnosis, as this allows us to work with the issues and problems affecting young people and their families. A diagnosis is not essential for referral as anyone suspected of having psychosis, or being at high-risk of developing psychosis, will be considered.

We will try to reduce stigma of mental health problems by trying to provide treatment or interventions in the least stigmatising settings possible, and will meet you and your family in appropriate places of your choosing.

Following an assessment by our team we will work collaboratively with you and your family to develop the best and most suitable support plan. We can call upon the expertise of a range of professionals to provide the most appropriate care for people with psychosis.

Below is a list of interventions that we can provide that can help with psychosis:

  • advice
  • one-to-one support
  • family work
  • groups
  • specialist psychological therapy
  • help with housing, education and employment
  • medication
