Vaccinations during Pregnancy

Getting vaccinated during pregnancy is the best way to protect you and your baby.

Flu Vaccine:

Having the flu vaccine helps protect you from getting sick and lowers your risk of being admitted to hospital. It’s safe to get the flu vaccine at any time during pregnancy.

Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Vaccine:

Whooping cough can be very serious for your baby and most babies who get it will be admitted to hospital. When you get the vaccine during pregnancy, your body makes antibodies to help protect your baby until they can get their own vaccine at 8 weeks old. You can get this vaccine between 16 and 32 weeks of pregnancy.

COVID-19 Vaccine:

You are at higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19. If you get COVID-19 late in your pregnancy, your baby could be at risk too. It’s safe to get the COVID-19 vaccine during any stage of pregnancy.

You can talk to your midwife or consultant/doctor about which vaccines you need during pregnancy. They can give you the all the information you need to make choices about vaccinations.
