The headache service runs specialist outpatient clinics each week providing assessment, investigations, advice and treatment to patients suffering with all forms of disabling headache conditions.
Conditions treated include:
To avoid repeating treatments that have already been tried, please come to your appointment prepared with what has been used previously, the highest dose that was reached, for how long, the outcome and why the medication was stopped. Sometimes preventive treatments are not
given at sufficient doses or given enough time to work. In migraines, their action may also be impeded by over-use of medications.
Patients are required to keep a headache diary so that their Clinician can review for any patterns that may be occurring and to record medication use. This will also help form a care plan to identify any new or changes to your treatment.
If you require the Musgrove Park Hospital Migraine Booklet, please email neurologyadmin@somersetft.nhs.uk for a copy to be sent to you via email.
Your GP will be able to refer you to the service using the e-referrals system. Once you have been referred you will receive the necessary paperwork in the post to enable you to book your appointment.
Keeping a headache diary is very important to see if there are any patterns to your migraines. It is important that you complete the diary full, and add up each column prior to your referral or appointment.
