Learning and development
Working at the heart of people services, our learning team were among the first to merge and create exceptional opportunities to share experience and learning across disciplines. The team comes from a wide breadth of professional backgrounds and offer a wide range of mandatory and development courses for all our colleagues.
All our learning opportunities are free to all employees and many can be used towards revalidation for those with a professional qualification. We offer a diverse range of courses from essential training such as health and safety, infection control and the management of violence, through to courses aimed at your personal development, helping you to be the best you can be, including management training and professional coaching.
The learning team can also help colleagues develop specific courses, offering practical guidance on the running of a course and the presentation itself. As well as offering support in getting a session approved for wider trust delivery. And, of course, we’re also committed to our own learning, keeping our skills and knowledge up to date across our technology enhanced team, resuscitation and clinical skills teams.
Colleague wellbeing and support services
We value the health and happiness of all our colleagues. We have in place a dedicated colleague wellbeing team who are focused on supporting wellbeing and improving working lives. It’s our view that work can have a positive impact on health and wellbeing, with motivated employees having a positive impact on patient care. We do everything we can to help you to not only be healthy and happy at work, but to grow, develop and thrive, and to deliver gold standard care that we can all be proud of.
Our annual wellbeing conference is an opportunity for colleagues to share outstanding initiatives and network to share best practice. Plus, we also dedicate the month of June each year to promoting wellbeing with workshops on stress, sleep, mindfulness and resilience. There are also free massages, yoga, spinning and Pilates taster sessions.
Wellbeing steering group
Our wellbeing steering group meets regularly to plan and promote initiatives that look after wellbeing, including things like protecting breaks and ensuring colleagues take them, encouraging and improving access to physical activity, Doctor Wellbeing and training 140 wellbeing champions.
Employee assistance programme
All our colleagues can call a 24 hour helpline and take advantage of six free counselling sessions. This can help with everything from health and wellbeing to money worries, through to home or family concerns.

This is provided by Optima Health and supports colleagues in a number of ways, including with robust policies and procedures in place to support our workforce.
