Chronic pain

Our medical professionals will help you learn and understand about your chronic pain and how it is likely to affect you in adulthood.

You need a good understanding of your own body and how to pace yourself.

Some topics will include:

  • how to avoid the ‘boom bust’ situations that makes a pain worse
  • how to prevent it
  • how to tolerate a pain flare
  • where to go for help.

If you need ongoing support after the age of 17 you may be looked after by your GP or through a specialist.

Your GP can help if you have more difficult symptoms and problems with sleep. They may consider medications and/or to referral to physiotherapist.

For more information visit the Somerset Community Pain Management Service website.

Patients moving to a neighbouring hospital for their adult care may find the transition process is different. Please discuss this with those currently providing your care.
