Hearing loss

If you have hearing loss, your care will be transferred to the adult audiology staff on your 18th birthday. If you have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) this transfer will be at 25 years.

The children’s and adult appointments are in the same place. The follow up care in adult services will be guided by you rather than the adult service calling you back.

Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)

If you need follow up care after your 18th birthday you will be transferred to the adult ENT service.

Hearing support services (teacher of the deaf)

Your teacher of the deaf will support you with any move to college at 16 years and until you are 18 years.

They will work with any new staff to complete deaf awareness training use audiology equipment.

The teacher for the deaf will also help with:

  • personal independent payment (PIP) application
  • access to work
  • disabled students allowance applications to support their career goals

If you have a EHCP this support is there until the age of 25 years.

Patients moving to a neighbouring hospital for their adult care may find the transition process is different. Please discuss this with those currently providing your care.
