PCE CfD is a 1-1 talking therapy that is for treating people experiencing depression and/or low mood. Many people struggle to speak about their difficulties with people they do not know, PCE CfD places importance on developing a trusting relationship between you and the therapist. There is a focus on seeing you as a whole person and your experience of the world, rather than symptoms. The therapist will explain the process to you in the first sessions and support you in opening up, working with you at your pace.

In PCE, we believe depression comes from blocked emotions, which can occur after difficult life experiences. A person might be feeling low in mood or depressed for a number of reasons; a couple of examples could be; bereavement/loss, adjustment to life events, being overly critical of yourself, feeling worthless, having unresolved feelings from difficult relationships or relationship difficulties. These events could have happened in the past or more recently.

Therefore, this therapy focuses on exploring underlying emotions which could be the cause of the depression. PCE CfD encourages you to express and make sense of your emotions (thoughts and behavioural responses), to develop new ways of relating to yourself and the world around you.

PCE CfD is a relational therapy and the relationship between therapist and client may also be explored to offer a deeper awareness of your inner world. The therapist will work with you to explore how you feel and understand your situation from your point of view. The therapist is not there to tell you what to do, but to help you to explore what you might wish to talk through thoughtfully.

The therapist will be helping you to make new meanings and understanding of life events and this could be in the past or more recent experiences. Through this exploration PCE can help you gain insight into your emotions which facilitates a greater understanding of current difficulties. this can support you to manage and reduce distress both in the present and future. PCE CfD is particularly suitable for clients who experience longer-lasting mild or moderate depression. The sessions are generally weekly for 50 minutes, for a time limited period which will be discussed with you at the start of treatment.
